Here are some of the great features of Ed. Morton's "Bit of Broadway"

, From the introduction: "Ever since Eddie Morton was forced out of the Philadelphia police department in 1903, he gained a following in show business that any aspiring singer or actor would envy. By 1911 he had already made his bow on Broadway, had performed in burlesque, and had made a larger number of records than most stage personalities up to that time. But now he was entering a new decade, and his value in the business reached its height: as one of the highest-paid single acts in vaudeville, Morton thrived at promoting new songs, often being sought by publishers who knew that he could make almost any song a success, thanks to his natural, effortless diction and remarkable comic timing. By 1917 Variety reported that he introduced more 'hits' in his career than any other singer--no doubt because of his ability to memorize five to eight songs for each performance, and learn new ones immediately after.

"Morton's name recognition gradually faded after 1920, but he retired in 1926 with his head held high, knowing that he hadn't weakened in voice or character. He went on to pursue other profitable interests, particularly as a business owner in Wildwood, New Jersey. For many years Eddie operated a popular restaurant on the Boardwalk called Ed. Morton's 'Bit of Broadway.'

"In the years since the first volume of this two-volume set was issued, new research has surfaced to help us understand more about this enigmatic songster. Luckily, most of the information in the first volume was correct. In this second volume, we will not only examine the second half of Morton's story but also revisit his origins, from his stage-struck father to his police work; his move from stage to restaurateur; and finally, his descent into obscurity."

This wonderfully catchy collection of songs includes Morton's biggest hit, "The Oceana Roll," two of his own compositions, "Noodle Soup Rag" and "I've Got You, Steve!" a collaboration with the Peerless Quartet, "Goodbye Broadway," and other notables tracks such as the Bert-Williams vehicle, "Play That Barbershop Chord," rags "That Peculiar Rag" and "The Trolley Car Swing," Irving Berlin's frantic "They've Got Me Doing It Now," and the big Broadway hit, "You're Here and I'm Here." Includes a full-color 28-page booklet with beautiful illustrations and detailed notes by Ryan Barna. ...
